Guide 8 for Windows 3.1

Tiziano Magni Mar 9, 2002

Hi all,

is there anybody on planet Earth using Guide 8 on Windows 3.1 (GUIDE8A.EXE)?
On my system, the "Install to Hard Drive" option don't work; after a brief
click or two from the CD-ROM drive, nothing gets copied (Anybody has a Déjà
Vu?).
I copied the two CD-ROMs on Hard Disk and adjusted STARTUP.MAR: the program
was working at last, but pushing to level 8 (FOV = 1 degree) GUIDE8A.EXE
crashed. The cause is program HDECOMP.EXE, a win32 executable that don't run
under Windows 3.1.
Disabling the display of "internal" images, GUIDE8A.EXE run flawlessly up
to level 20!

To end, a minor problem: unlike DOSGUIDE.EXE and GUIDE8.EXE (for Win95),
GUIDE8A.EXE turn to all white stars from level 6 up.

P.S. I had tried GUIDE8.EXE on Windows ME: everything's fine. Very good
work Bill!
