I think it was already written on this list, but it really does a good job:
those "corrupt" BMP-files can be read by PaintShopPro, and then converted to
a more common kind of -.bmp (or gif, or png, or whatever).
I had the same problem after switching from 24 bits graphics-adapter to a 32
bits one. It's a bit of a handicap, but at least there's a solution.
