Hi folks,
Thanks for the replies to both questions. It looks as if I'm set on
both points now.
One reply eventually led me to where I could dig out a figure of
15 billion solar luminosities for the Milky Way... with an uncertainty
of about 2:1, mostly because you're attempting to measure the
brightness of something that is largely behind dust clouds. However,
I'll go with that figure, and galaxy distances and luminosities (and,
I expect, a "make .AVI animation" feature) will be part of the next
update on the Web site.
