Hi Bill -
Regarding animations, I know that Flash has the ability to produce
animations in a variety of formats - animated GIF, native SWF and
quicktime.mov. Not sure about .avi though. I'll have to check.
Basically import a series of images (anim gifs) and Flash will automatically
recognise it's a series and place each animation in its own frame.
You can then export this is a SWF file or Quicktime movie.
Unfortunately (1), Animated GIfs and movs from Flash for long animations
tend to make huge movie files. This is due to Flash being a primarily Vector
format tool rather than Bitmap tool.
Unfortunately (2), the Flash editor (not the ubiquitous Flash Player Plugin)
is not your average piece of software that everyone has.
The good news, though, is that Macromedia has put out the SWF code as open
source, It think there is an SDK at macromedia.com/flash.
There are a number of free/share/low cost Flash tools out there including
Swish, Swift 3d and Adobe LiveMotion.
Guide animations sound pretty cool, and I can see great uses for this as an
educational tool...
regards
James
And now for two completely unrelated questions...
A while back, somebody on this list (don't remember who) mentioned
creating a series of .BMPs in Guide, then running them through a
program to create an animation (Flash, animated .GIF, MPEG, something
of that ilk.) However, I can't seem to find this. Can anyone recommend
software to perform this task?
I have some thoughts to simplify "movie making" with Guide a bit.
Basically, you would hit a "record on" button, and each animation
step or redraw of any kind would produce a new frame. If you wanted
to create, say, a movie showing the Moon going through its phases,
you could click on it, then on "moving target" in the Animation
dialog, then on "record", and start animating. All this would make
the need for a way to make animation-format files from a slew of
still images.
