Hi folks,

Still attempting to puzzle out why a few people are having
hard drive install failures. Use of the "patch" file, and/or
knowing that you had to double-click to get an item to toggle,
and/or knowing that you have to make some sort of change
in the dialog to get it to copy/remove files, has gotten just
about everybody to get the function to work. (Except for
several people, I realize, who just gave up and copied the
CD or CDs to their hard drive manually...)

I found out a cause of at least one failure to install to the
hard drive: one gent turned on everything _except_ the 'minimal
install' (topmost) option, figuring that he didn't need those
6.5 megabytes of 'minimal' files. Problem is, without those,
Guide will either crash or demand that you feed it the Guide CD.

His assumption was, it seems to me, not unreasonable. I've
just posted Yet Another Update to

that repairs this problem as follows: if you tell Guide that
you want to install anything at all, it'll recognize that the
"minimal" files will be needed as well. So it will no longer
even be possible for the program to be broken in this manner.

So: if you run the SETUP program to install Guide, then
unZIP this newly-posted guide8.zip in your Guide directory, then
run Guide 8, and find that the "install to hard drive" option still
fails... PLEASE LET ME KNOW. If I don't hear differently, it
looks as if I'm set to send out a CD to be replicated on Monday,
which ought to get me disks to ship sometime around 14 February.
