OT: 96P Machholz in SOHO LASCO C3 fov

Bernd Brinkmann Dec 18, 2001

Hello guide-users,

after having a look at the actual C3 coronograph images I asked
myself how Venus and Mercury would pass the sun. I started Guide 7
and made an animation.

And what happened: a comet hurried through the field of view! It is
96P Machholz which passes the sun in the early hours of 8th Jan
2002 at a distance of 2 deg. Beginning with Jan 3rd or 4th the comet
should be easily visible in the C3 coronograph images.

They can be found here:

Happy viewing
Bernd
