Hi Bill,
I found a small problem (using windows 98) that could be related but might as well be something completely different.
When a copy an old A10.dat to the guide7 directory it still works as before. (using the guide7 update that I downloaded last friday, december the 7th.)
When I use the download USNO A2.0 button I see the star-dots appear on my screen,
but the magnitude labels only are vissible for stars already on the screen before the download.
Switching te magnitude limit back and forward (to 0 and then to 25) doesn't change a thing.
clear skies

Onderwerp: [guide-user] Downloading data on WinXP machines?
Hi folks,
I've run into a little hitch with Guide 8 that really has me scratching
my head
in bewilderment. If anybody has tried out the various functions for accessing
data in Guide through the Internet while running on WinXP, please let me
know. (By this, I mean the "Get A2.0 data via Internet", "Get GSC-2.2 data
via Internet", and "Get DSS image via Internet.")
The first two are implemented as a separate console application, started
up by Guide when you click on the "get whatever" button. I'm getting a nasty
feeling that WinXP doesn't like the idea of spawning applications. If
that's true,
it could leave me in a rather dire situation.
The problem may also crop up on Win2000 machines, and possibly on NT
boxes. If the functions work in the currently uploaded version of Guide
7, then
I can be sure they'll work in Guide 8 as well (same code in both cases).
Anybody got a comment?
Thanks! -- Bill
