Hi folks,

Just to remove doubts: I have _no_ intention of migrating 'help' to
HTML, _unless_ I can figure out some way to support the sort of links
to dates/objects/actions that are available with the current help system.
(Which I don't think I can do.)

Pat Anway mentioned one of my personal favorites in the "non-Windows
behavior" category: the DOS version has an on-screen keyboard provided
for assorted text entry tasks, intended so you can dispense with the
keyboard at night (rather than type in, say, "NGC 253", you can
click on the letters 'N', 'G', etc.) I always found this useful at
night, when you can't really see the keyboard.

Such a thing _should_ be possible in Windows, in still better
form: a new, separate program, perhaps called something like "Night
On-Screen Keyboard", or "NOSK". NOSK would be a small floating
window showing a keyboard; you'd then fire up Guide (or any other
program) and could enter text into that program by clicking on the
NOSK keys, just as if you'd used a real keyboard. (Perhaps with
left-button clicks being upper-case characters and right-button clicks
being lower-case... and left double-clicks being 'Alt', and right
double-clicks being 'Ctrl'. Dunno what the middle button of a
three-button mouse would do.)

I still think this is a good idea (maybe good enough that somebody
else has already done it), but I've never figured out a way to do it.
So this project has languished.
