[guide-user] Blinking, part II
Bill J. Gray Jan 12, 2000
I got an e-mail from Bob Elliott, telling me that new problems were
cropping up with the CHARON2.ZIP I posted last night. I just posted a
replacement CHARON2.ZIP that (I'm pretty sure) fixes those problems.
You may have to delete your existing IMAGES.DAT, or at least edit it
and remove some garbage lines from it.
Lawrence Harris mentioned the contrast problems: when you load blink
images, they're often washed out or very dark. This usually happens
when you have images with different exposure lengths, and the contrast
data from one really shouldn't be used with that from another.
I had some thoughts about that issue this morning, and I think I've
fixed that as well. When Charon loads blink images, it will adjust
their contrast to correctly match that of the original image. I used
a fairly primitive method to do this, but it works surprisingly well
(at least, it surprised _me_).
Lawrence also mentioned a problem with getting USNO Ax.0/SAx.0 to
work... I'm pondering that one. (Fixing line 63 in STARTUP.MAR ought
to have done the job.) I may just add some better diagnostic messages.
As before, I'll wait for feedback, and if everything works the way
it's supposed to, I'll post it as an "official" update on the Web site.
