Hi folks/Bonjour,
Jean-Paul Verrot reported clicking on variable stars and getting
messages such as:
(for V646 Aql:) o_tdf.bmp Go to .TDF Object
(for AM CAS:) et. 19.bmp Go to level 19
(for V702 Aql:) o_coga.bmp Enter Galactic coords
These lines are from TOOLBAR.DAT. It looks as if this file has
replaced either FRA_TYPE.DAT (if you're running in French) or
VAR_TYPE.DAT (if you're running in English). I would suggest that
you delete both FRA_TYPE.DAT and VAR_TYPE.DAT. Do this, and Guide
will automatically reload them from the CD.
Jacques Montier wrote about one missing galaxy and one misplaced
galaxy. Both are fixed in the NGC-IC catalog. (I've heard of assorted
errors in Guide's current NGC and IC display, but to my knowledge,
nobody has found a case where NGC-IC was wrong... quite impressive, in
my opinion.) While full use of NGC-IC won't occur until Guide 8 ships,
you can get many of its benefits here:

"...I got DSS images on line and I saved them on my Hard Drive Disk (GIF
files); I would like to know if it is possible to get them in Guide?"
Sorry, no. GIF contains no RA/dec data, so Guide doesn't know where
to put them. If you get DSS images in FITS format, then Guide's "Extras...
Add DSS image" will do the job. This is described starting at the bottom of
