Michael Mattiazzo <mmatti@...> (2001 April 25) and J.
van Gijsen <j.van.gijsen@...> (2001 May 8) advised Guide users
of the close passage of the bright near-earth asteroid 1999KW late this
month, and provided elements. The set provided by van Gijsen is more
recent and corresponds to the set available from the Center for
Astrophysics and Planetary Science.
Using the latter set, obtained independently from CFAPS, and Guide
7, I have prepared tracking charts for 1999 KW4 for the period 2001 May
22 - June 1, when it will be at predicted magnitude 13 or brighter. On
May 26 and 27 it is predicted to be at 10.7. These are posted on the
Web site of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh,
http://3ap.org; go to S.I.G. and then to Asteroids and Comets. The
annotations are rather crude, but the objective was to get these charts
out to our members for use.
