You realize the sort of envy you're going to generate with these
statements, don't you?

You don't hear of too many people going after these objects... not
surprising, given what it takes to see them. An occulting bar appears
to make matters far easier; there is some discussion of this in the
June 2001 issue of _Sky & Telescope_, pages 102 to 104.

I shudder to think of what you might see on a 2.3-meter scope with an
occulting-bar eyepiece. You ought to give it a try when Jupiter next
comes to opposition. Amalthea ought to actually be an easy find (hard
as that is to imagine); seeing Thebe would, I think, be quite possible.
