I'll write up something more detailed in a bit, but for the nonce...

You can click with the right mouse button on _any_ overlay object
(and a planet trail is nothing but an overlay object... just one generated
in an odd manner), and get the usual short dialog box of information.
In this case, you will see the name "Planet trails from animation", with
buttons for "OK", "Color", "Delete", and "Next".

Select "Color", and you can change the color of planet trails; select
"Delete", and you can delete _just the trail you clicked on_.
