Here is a workaround.
When you create an individual planet or comet
trail, Guide creates a file
called tracks.uov. Rename this, i.e. jupiter.uov.
Restart
Guide. Then you can use Guide's overlay functions
to toggle this
overlay on and off.

For comets I have written my own (though German
language)
comet program which computes Ephemeris and
generates
individual Guide overlay files with date lables.
