I was thinking that any discrepancy could also be attributed to what kind of stuff - smoke, smog, pollution is in the atmosphere at the time. Would this effect the apparent position of the sun than if one was looking through clear atmosphere?

I also believe there is an ability in Guide to do user specific horizons... I think there was a thread way back that mentioned this, maybe not as my memory is hazy :>
