here is a possible explanation from BIll why the "Goto tdf" search function sometimes works (or works for some of us)  and why sometimes (or for some of us) only the "Goto \ find object" search function is working:

Under the third paragraph, Bill states as follows:
"But second and more important... 'Go to TDF' will, for UCAC-4 (and other UCACs) only work if the object is already on the screen!"
