I verified, ... and you won't believe, but I had the same problem with my main machine and my laptop.
I just copied over again the Guide sub-folder "Variables" from the machine where it worked, and now it works on both machines.

If that does not work for you, it might be an access rights issue (especially when you have different WIN versions on your two machines) when you copy over. Try to copy while being logged in as administrator or give Guide more rights by taking ownership.
