Just to note I updated Guide 9.1 to the July 2017 version. The problem still persists.

I did find a recent thread on using the built-in Variables Stars versus the User Data set from the GCVS.

I do not understand some of the reasoning in the thread, in the way they interact with each other, as I thought any User Data Sets (using a .tdf) are independent of built-in data sets.

I found the other issue people had. The built-in goto does not go the correct RA & Dec while the user data set does go the correct location.
