Sorry, I need to pedal back !

I was wrong  and Bernd was right. It works, also for the variable stars with V+number, if you use the "user data search" (Menu "Go to" \ "Goto tdf object"), ... and only in this case. I think this is logic, because the .tdf system is "getting around" the - older - standard mecanism.
