two other thoughts (because I also tried many things before it worked).

1. guide.dat

Try to delete all lines having the terms UCAC 4 in the text in the guide.dat file (main folder). beginning with DLG ...(something). Save changes. Then try the "alt J" thing again.

2. Did you download individual UCAC 4 files from Vizier via the following Guide menu: Extras\Get star catalogue data ?

I had done this (for instance for the ring nebula M 57 by placing me on M 57 and inviking the above-mentionned sub-menu). And I have a litte doubt, whether this may not be the culprit (= conflict ?). Unfortunately, I do not recall the exact name of the file that was downloaded into the Guide folder, when I did this (downloaded ONLT the UCAC stars for M 57), because I deleted it.  But I could always see the UCAC4 stars in the ring nebula, ... and I thus thought this cannot be that I can't see the others (after having downloaded and installed the full UCAC4 catalogue).

The file was situated very close to the UCAC4.tdf file in the Guide main folder (once I had put d the last one there) and it had the letters "viz" (from Vizier) in its name.

If you have done this (and have this file there), don't delete it immediately, but take it out of the Guide main folder and try again.

We will get that thing to work, ... no !
