Thanks - did what you suggested but to no avail I am afraid. I have checked permissions on the relevant files and folders and they all look good. CMC14 and UCAC3 data (downloaded from the internet) displays correctly.

I will try loading Guide 9.1 and UCAC4 on my laptop (have been using my desktop PC) and see if I can get it to work there.
