Red mode/Ax.0 in Charon/MPCORB

Bill J. Gray Feb 20, 2001

Kevin, about the 'red mode' troubles: the flickering when you start
Guide doesn't surprise me. Whenever Guide enters red mode, it has to
reset all the system colors (for items such as menu bars, dialog boxes,
the background, etc.) to shades of red. That produces a quick flurry
of blinking icons and such when you start the program in red mode.

But the crashing is something I'd not heard of. I just tried running
Guide, switching to red mode, shutting it down, starting it up, shutting
it down, starting it up... no problem. Anyone else experience crashes
when you do this?

Lawrence, about use of A2.0 in Charon: it uses the same line in
GUIDE.DAT as does Guide. So if you've now got A2.0 displaying properly
in Guide, you should be able to use it in Charon (provided you select
"Match to A2.0" in Charon's Settings menu, of course!)

Errrmmm.. if you mean that you can change the epoch of the elements
to something more recent (that is, to the date of the asteroid occultation),
then you will indeed be able to do better than Guide's built-in elements.
To do this, it will not be enough to download MPCORB frequently. You
will need a program to numerically integrate the elements to the date
you want to use. (Do you have such a program? I suspect it may be of
interest to some others...)
