Has any Guide user come across this effect.

If I terminate Guide 7 (Windows 98) with red stars selected, when I
restart it, my desktop Icons flash off and on a number of times before
Guide starts.
Then, when I try to resume normal display, I end up with residual
areas in the screen still red even with Guide terminated.
On attempting to restart Guide once again, I get continuous flashing
of the Icons and Guide does not come up. I have to fiddle around
pressing keys till it does start and then I find Red Stars is still
on.
I think I have my facts correct. I usually end up with this problem
while trying to do CCD imaging and get very frustrated.
