Jan pretty well covered the options... well, in truth, the _only_
option: leaving out the zones below dec -30. For some more information
about what this will get you, the following page may help:

This gives (among other things) the size, in bytes, of each zone.
Leaving out the zones below dec -30 (eight files) saves you a bit over
2.7 GBytes (out of a total 6.3 GBytes), leaving about 3.6 GBytes.
