It works!!!

Thanks, Bill for your last message.  I used the "install to hard drive" technique you mentioned.  I noticed that "Minimum hard drive install" was not checked.  I checked that and several other items.  I closed the program and reopened it without the external drive.  That did the trick.

Guide is really beautiful on the MacBook display and it's also very fast.
