Hello all,
In the course of asking around about the two ZTF objects,
I learned that MPC is accepting astrometry in the "new" ADES2015
format, as well as in the traditional 80-column form. (For
those wondering what ADES2015 is :
https://github.com/IAU-ADES/ADES-Master/raw/master/ADES_Description_v30Mar2017.pdfhttps://www.minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K15/K15O06.htmlThus far, we don't see the data. I presume that MPC ingests
ADES data and emits (for the nonce) 80-column data. I also
presume that at some point, they'll emit ADES data, probably
first as an option, and later as the only way in which astrometry
is distributed by them.
Obviously, this is a Big Deal for those of us who write
software that ingests astrometric data. I'm looking at getting
Find_Orb, Astcheck, Sat_ID, and various other bits to work
with the "new" (well, three years old already) format. And
actually, two formats, since it comes in XML and PSV. (XML
is nearly impossible for humans to read. PSV is somewhat more
straightforward.)
At first, I expected this to take years and cost millions of
lives. However, I recently came up with a reasonably simple way
to handle ADES input. But to test it, I'd like to have some
real-world examples of ADES astrometry from as wide a variety of
sources as possible. I am assuming that different software will
produce somewhat different ADES data.
If you are currently generating ADES astrometry, would you
please send me some examples via private e-mail?
Thank you, -- Bill
