Don’t understand why. I just copy/pasted the obs from your message into Find Orb (old and new versions) and it recognised them without any problem.
Do you have the obs stored in some kind of rich text file format? It needs to be plain text and the line lengths need to be correct (no extra spaces etc). Just try copy/paste and see if that works.

I forgot to mention that for both observations, the target is above the
horizon, and the Sun is below the horizon.

This is a pair of hypothetical observations. I am using the new
find_orb version Jul 27 2014. I do have values for R1 and R2 in
the main window.
Here is my data. I tried it with and without the ‘P’ in column 5.
In both cases, find_orb gives me a window that says,
“No observations loaded from this file.”
